Ah, the marching season in Ireland. Is there a more stupid, more pig-headed, less constructive, more utterly laughable and yet more actively damaging cultural tradition in the world? If there is, we haven’t heard of it. No preview material was available of this documentary in which Alys Harte heads to the frontline with a loyalist band who are keen to march into a disputed area of Belfast.
It claims to be part of a fly-on-the-wall investigation into the increased tensions in the city that is in the midst of one of its most violent summers for years. We wish Harte all the best – and hope her search for even a modicum of commonsense doesn’t prove futile.
