Free activities for kids over spring break 2012

New York City public schools are closed from April 6 through April 15. Here's how to keep your kids busy on the cheap!

A Closer Look for Kids
Youngsters tour the museum's permanent collection and temporary exhibits. This month's topic, "Before and After: Story in Art," encourages families to discuss what story the artist is trying to convey. Tickets are distributed at 10am at the reception desk in the Cullman Education and Research Building (4 W 54th St between Fifth and Sixth Aves) on a first-come, first-served basis, and include museum and program admission. Sun Apr 15 10:20--11:30am. Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). Free. Ages 5 to 10.

Tours for Fours
Parents and their four-year-olds can tour MoMA's galleries; this month they'll focus on the theme "Mix and Match: Color" and take a special look at artworks with different color schemes. Tickets are distributed at 10am at the reception desk in the Cullman Education and Research Building (4 W 54th St between Fifth and Sixth Aves) on a first-come, first-served basis. Sun Apr 15 10:20--11:15am. Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). Free. Age 4 (younger siblings are allowed to tag along).

Target Free Sundays
The iconic three-level museum opens its doors for free every Sunday. In addition to guided tours of the exhibits, be sure to join in free hands-on family workshops, theater performances and other interactive events. Sun Apr 15 noon--6pm. Studio Museum in Harlem. Free. All ages. 

Race Around the Farmyard
Burn off energy in Prospect Park during an afternoon of kooky activities. Potato-sack races, stilt walking and other old-fashioned games will all be part of the fun. Sun Apr 8 2:30--3:30pm. . Free. All ages.
