History lovers can go back in time- specifically, to Valley Forge in the winter of 1777- at this two-day New York Historical Society event. Kids will meet battle-ready members of the Third New Jersey Regiment, a living history troop, and their commander, Colonel Elias Dayton. Spend Black Friday exploring the various cultures of the Lower East Side through a turkey-burning, tastebud-tingling tour. Tots can sample 10 different Jewish, Italian, Chinese and Dominican treats and snacks at outdoor markets while learning about different ethnicities and their histories. Long before the borough of Manhattan was populated by 1.6 million New Yorkers, it was inhabited by the Lenape Indian tribe, who called it 'Mannahatta.' Kids can explore the history of the island and its original residents at this fall-themed exhibit at the Museum of the City of New York.
