Joep van Liefland, "Men in Pain"

This Dutch artist appears to have a love-hate relationship with early video technology and the Conceptualists who employed it during the late 1960s and early 1970s. An archivist of obsolescence, he creates installations that delve into the arcana of three-quarter-inch tape, as well as videos poking fun at the artists who used it. As an avid collector of old cassettes, he’s created a library that he uses as source material for his shows, including this one.
