Bryant Park

Midtown West Free
Situated behind the New York Public Library is Bryant Park, a well-cultivated retreat that hosts a dizzying schedule of free entertainment during the summer, including the popular Monday night outdoor movies. In the winter, look for an ice skating rink and pop-up shops for the holidays. The park also boasts free wireless access.

When is a park not just a park? When it's Bryant Park! A lovely place to pop a squat in the summer to read during your lunch break, it's also one of the most popular sites in NYC. Free movie screenings in the summer (get there very, VERY early) and a winter village when it's cold (it's got the city's only free ice-skating rink, along with an outdoor bar, silent discos and a holiday market), it's a must-go-to.

Bryant Park is one of my favorite outdoor spaces in New York City. It's a very peaceful park for being right in the center of Manhattan. Tall trees (not birch, but some similar smooth-barked tree) line wide, stone slate–floored walkways. There are always about four food booths and coffee cars, so you can grab a light bite and sit at one of the many, many tables. There's a fountain, outdoor movies int eh summer as well as yoga, musical events and theater performances, an ice-skating rink in the winter and a holiday market...the list goes on. There's also a small bar and bocci courts and a ping-pong table, and occasionally a reading corner.
