Brass Monkey
Though Meatpacking mayhem rages around this low-key pub, the Brass Monkey remains the eye of the nightlife storm. The attitude is relaxed, and the decor is simple—just plain wooden chairs and tables. You won’t find any hypersweet cocktails or tarted-up bar snacks, either: There’s a rotating list of 20 drafts (including Hoegaarden, Chimay and Magic Hat), 60 bottled beers, and tavern fare like mussels, burgers and shepherd’s pie.

It's a right of passage, really. I feel like everyone at some point in their early 20's has a night where they end up at the Brass Monkey for the same reason: they couldn't get in anywhere else in Meatpacking.

Not to say the Brass Monkey is just an "eh, I guess" option. It can actually be quite fun...during the day. The roof is a great day drinking spot during the warmer months, with awesome views of the Hudson and a crowd that still manages to be cool and avoid the whole "scene-y" aspect.

But their real saving grace is their draft section (75 I believe). Very hard to come by in an area where your options are usually between "a bottle of Grey Goose for the table" and "turn around and go somewhere else."

I've been here both day and night and I must say the day drinking atmosphere here is on point. Plenty of room to sit, easy to get drinks, the crows isn't too douchey and relatively attractive. The summer's here are nice because the rooftop is open. Obviously drinks are pricey because its the meatpacking and theres not too much late night food but it's a pretty good time.

Nice casual bar with rooftop service. Went specifically to hear the Irish music so we were very disappointed that the musicians were crammed into a small eating alcove which trapped the sound. Had lots of appetizers all of which were good. Really liked the mac & cheese. Went there around 6 on a Sunday so not too crowded.
