Greenwich Village

This intimate Greenwich Village nook is a café by day and a beer-and-wine bar by night. In the a.m., find Ceci Cela pastries, wood-roasted Aneri espresso and Gillies Coffee drinks. When the sun sets, the rustic, brick-laden space turns into a candlelit date spot, serving 30 vinos by glass and 40 beers, with six on tap (Magic Hat #9, Long Hammer IPA). Chef Giordano Smiroldo (Altamarea Group) oversees a menu of charcuterie, cheese plates and panini, including grilled mushrooms with provolone and truffle oil, prosciutto di Parma with pear and mozzarella, and tuna with sun-dried tomatoes and almond pesto. High-top wooden tables, exposed-brick walls and stripped metal pillars decorate the space.

I’ve only visited for a happy hour drink before getting dinner with friends, and it was perfect for just that. The special is solid ($4 draft beer), especially for the area. It’s a very relaxed, candlelit environment. If you’ve been to DTUT on the UES, it’s a very similar vibe.

I’d highly recommend for a first date or an intimate conversation and can only imagine that it makes a charming café during the day.
