This January, you can hang out inside a giant, pop-art creation full of live music, film screenings, dance parties and craft workshops. Called the Sugarcube, the structure will be used as a winter pop-up venue, and host the indoor festival at the South Street Seaport despite the freezing winter weather.
This month-long festival features several film screenings, including cult horror-comedy Toxic Avenger, plus Sugarcube happy hours every Friday and a workshop by New Yorker cartoonist Carolita Johnson. There will also be performances by Marshall Allen and the Sun Ra Arkestra, a music group continuing the legacy of innovative jazz artist Sun Ra, as well as the Third Eye Orchestra and other groups.
