NYC is about to start feeling the heat.

The first heatwave of the year is expected to start baking the city today with temperatures barely hitting 90 degrees. Tomorrow, the mercury is expected to top 94 degrees and that oppressively hot weather should continue into the day on Friday. With intense humidity, those temperatures will actually feel a lot closer to 100 degrees. AKA "Hallucinate your spirit animal on the subway platform during your morning commute"-type weather.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for NYC from 1pm today until 8pm tomorrow. Cooling centers will be open around the city because of the crazy hot temps and you can find their locations and hours here.

A heatwave is officially defined as three consecutive days with 90-plus temps or the best song recorded by Martha and the Vandellas, depending on the context.
