New York remembers: 12 photos from the 9/11 Tribute in Light

From dusk last night until dawn this morning anyone with a clear view of lower Manhattan’s skyline saw—and felt—the 9/11 Tribute in Light. As remembrance for all that was lost during the attacks fourteen years ago, two large lights beam from the ground to the clouds in the place where the twin towers once stood, as they have every year since the light memorial was first designed to mark the 6 month anniversary on March 11, 2002. For New Yorkers who lived the tragedy first hand and the rest of the country who watched in horror, the lights ascending into the heavens can be viewed as both a memorial and, for some, a hope for a better, more peaceful future.

As all who remember that day have their own stories to share, every view of the lights represents a different perspective. Many natives, transplants and visitors captured their moments and shared on Instagram.
