Get out your artsy beret and your critical eye cause it's that time of year again. This weekend (starting tomorrow!) downtown Brooklyn transforms into a gigantic gallery at the Dumbo Arts Festival, and it's totally freeOver 100 poets, murals, huge projections, live music, outdoor installations, and—of course—artists will embellish every corner of the neighborhood. Here are some of the best things happening at the fest this week that you should totally check out:

  • Himalayas , a band inspired by the Beatles and drugs (yes, drugs) will march throughout Dumbo on Friday starting at 12pm. Wherever they go it's a party, so expect an impromptu dance jam.
  • Food, guys. Dumbo has some of the best eateries in Brooklyn, and this is your chance to enjoy them all. Stop by Juliana's Pizza for a taste of what made NYC legend Pasty Grimaldi's pies famous. Then head to One Girl Cookies for yummy, homemade treats. Nom, nom.
  • San Jose, CA, art-rockers Xiu Xiu perform Kling Klang. It's part performance art, part musical Greek tragedy, and fully worth it.
  • Artist collective Big Head Brigade will march around DUMBO either in small groups, or one of them randomly roaming in costume. They'll be the unofficial judges of the fest, giving thumbs up as they pass all the art works. You'll probably want a picture.
  • Rabbithole will showcase their new art movement, Biowomen, which operates in a completely democratic fashion—there's no leader or permanent curator.
  • Bowery Poets led by Nikhil Melnechuk will perform an hour of delightful (or wonderfully dark) verses for your listening pleasure at 1pm on Saturday.

When: Sep 26-28- DAF begins Friday from 6pm–9pm, then runs from Noon–9pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Where: Dumbo Arts Festival will cover the lot of DUMBO waterfront, between Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridge. Subways: F to York St; A, C to High St; 2, 3 to Clark St.
