When it comes to projects of this size, we’re used to hearing about delays. But this morning brought some pretty unusual news. The Hills on Governors Island, a new ten-acre section of the popular summer spot, will open almost a full year early.

“We are thrilled to announce today that the Hills’ construction is ahead of schedule,” Leslie Koch, President of The Trust for Governors Island, said in a statement. “Thanks to an unseasonably warm fall and rigorous construction management, we can complete and open the Hills to the public in 2016 instead of next year.”

Not since MTV in the late aughts, have we seen hills quite so exciting. The 70-foot tall Outlook Hill will offer breathtaking views of the Statue of Liberty and the New York Harbor. Silde Hill boasts four slides for children and Discovery Hill will feature a permanent sculpture from British artist, Rachel Whiteread.
