The Only Thing to Do in New York: Cat Video Festival

Finally! In celebration of Comic Con week in New York, on Sunday, October 5th the Galapagos Art Space in DUMBO is hosting the only event about which you will ever need to know: The First (and Probably Last!) Annual New York Feline Film & Video Festival for Humans (family friendly edition!).

Regurgitated from the brains of Mike Keegan and Jay Wertzler (the co-founders of the San Francisco Intergalactic Feline Film & Video Festival for Humans—seriously), these cat-lovers will guide all non-napping viewers into the multiverse of feline cinema with short features such as A Brief History of Cat Videos and World Purr-Mieres, as well as an additional category highlighting the best videos and sloths and otters—curated to excite the desires of every child in existence.

But wait! The buck never stops to lick itself: Following the afternoon, family-friendly feline fiesta will be the New York Super Week Spectacular Edition—a.k.a. the 21+ show version of this film festival (yes, seriously!). Some Brooklynites created the first silent cat film, Sleepies, to be followed by a Halloween-appropriate Spotlight on Scaredy Cats in Film. Most of all, however, these directors want you to submit your own cat videos, to be judged by strangers and a panel of un-announced "celebrity judges" in front of your friends. But no children—we're curious as to what kind of activities make this event inappropriate for kids. Probably drinking (we hope). If you just can't wait until the event, here are some cat-tastic videos to get you in purr-fect mood...
