Winter (a.k.a. George R. R. Martin) is coming.

We’ll all be pretending New York is King’s Landing on October 26, when the Game of Thrones author makes his only U.S. appearance to promote the new series companion book, The World of Ice and Fire: The Untold History of Westeros and the Game of Thrones. Since the television show has been off-the-air since June and the sixth book is still in-progress, it’s understandable that your Khaleesi impression may be a little rusty; before meeting the contemporary king of epic fantasy, brush up on your Game of Thrones guide to NYC, train like a Game of Thrones badass and, you know, maybe re-read the books for the third time.

Then, on October 26, two days before the The World of Fire and Ice goes on sale to the public, join George R. R. Martin and all of New York's diehard GoT fans at 92Y for an evening of discussion about the political machinations and sordid relationships that set into motion the struggles of the noble families. Tickets start at $180 but even with that hefty price tag, they're going quickly. All lucky ticket-holders will also receive a pre-signed copy of the new book—it's an illustrated history of the Seven Kingdoms written in collaboration with Elio M. García, Jr., and Linda Antonsson, the founders of fan site Westeros.org. That's right: These two people have pretty much made a career out of being GoT fans. But if you can't make the event, please just enjoy this video of Martin throwing the first pitch at a minor league baseball game.
