Created in 1969 by composers John Cage and Lejaren Hiller, HPSCHD is both a pioneering example of plunderphonics—its sources include pieces by Mozart, Beethoven and Busoni—and quite possibly the loudest, largest piece written during the 20th century. This re-creation, produced for Eyebeam by Darmstadt Essential Repertoire and the Electronic Music Foundation, is steered by Joel Chadabe, Neely Bruce and Bradley Eros; audiences are invited to come and go at will during its five-hour duration.
