Voodoo Funk's Frank Gossner
The sun is reaching ever higher and shining ever brighter; a certain sultry feel is returning to the air, and those little whatevers (flies, gnats, little Tinker Bell fairies...we're not quite sure) are beginning to swarm. In short, it's time for a new mix of impossibly groovy Nigerian funk, disco and boogie from Voodoo Funk's Frank "Franc O" Gossner, culled from his many crate-digging trips in West Africa. (Note: Dig that crazy, boogiefied hip-hop track at the 28-minute mark, which sounds like a rawer version of the material that was coming out on the Sugar Hill label in the late '70s and early '80s.) Mr. O is tossing another of his parties at Zebulon on May 14; a second party is slated for the same venue on the 21st, serving as a release party for Afroboogie specialist Uchenna Ikonne's fab new Brand New Wayo compilation. Until then, groove along to this brilliant set.
