Ever since Merseybeat started ferrying itself across the Atlantic in the early ’60s (not to mention the rise of some little combo called the Beatles), New York City has been in the midst of a love affair with British popular music. But there are few bands that inspire the kind of devotion that the Smiths, in particular lead mopester Morrissey, do. The proof can be found at Sway’s long-running, ridiculously popular Sunday-night shindig devoted to the Manchester band, helmed by Ben Cho and Gang Gang Dance’s Brian DeGraw. It’s packed every week, so get there early, or you’ll be stuck humming “What Difference Does It Make?” to yourself.
