Time Out Live, our New York Comedy Festival Show, stars…
What he does: Wrote for and appeared on Chelsea Lately; writes for and rants on Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell; hosts his own lowbrow hybrid competition, Talk Show: The Game Show, at the Creek and the Cave; pops up at shows ranging from Punderdome 3000 to Uptown Showdown
Why we love him: Branum is, by his own admission, “unusually large for a homosexual.” When he gets lathered up, his head swivels, his arms slice through the air, and the bile comes right through his voice. It’s an impressive sight. Polemical by nature, the comic’s “current working theories” about everything from the tea party to the advantages of being gay (“You get to be friends with black women for no reason!”) put the crowd on his wavelength. From there, he repeats his refrains like Chris Rock while preparing his knockout punch.
Time Out Live happens at the UCBEast on Nov 7. Get tickets at east.ucbtheatre.com.
