A Hen in the Wind

Ozu works the melodramatic angle a little too strenuously in this tale of a soldier who returns home from the front to discover that his wife has turned to prostitution for the sake of their child. Still, it’s less maudlin than it might have been in other hands, and the performances are terrific.
