Vigo’s untimely death at age 29 was a huge loss, but he did leave us two unqualified classics, one of which—set in a boarding school for boys—anticipates rebellious-youth flicks of the ’60s. It screens with Karl Valentin’s 1934 featurette, “Confirmation Day,” about a father and son’s drunken celebratory dinner. Unfortunately, these gems will be shown without English subtitles.
