Portraits of jazz giants hang on the walls of this perpetually packed two-story Harlem fave. A bottle of Frank’s RedHot dresses every table—a sign of the soul food goodness to come. Indeed, the richly battered catfish or the fried chicken and waffles platters (many named for famous African Americans, including Rev. Al Sharpton, and Doug E. Fresh), served with your choice of white or dark meat, go down peppery-sweet with a splash of the hot stuff. Long spears of delicately fried okra are delivered without a hint of slime, and the mac ’n’ cheese is gooey inside and crispy-brown on top. Titanic helpings of cinnamon-crusted peach cobbler and thickly iced red velvet cake lend the menu a grandmotherly touch.

Amy Ruth's certainly does know how to settle a group of 10 into a total food coma. The portions are large, so sharing is definitely recommended.
Came in with a party of 10 on a Saturday night, and they were actually able to accommodate us without much wait at all. The space is larger than the front appears, so don't let the initial entrance appearance fool you, there's a whole other room to the side.
For dinner, I sampled the Honey Fried Chicken, potato salad, mac n cheese, and mashed potatoes. 2 sides come with your entree, but we ordered a few more for everyone to share. The complimentary corn bread was delicious. I definitely recommend the mashed potatoes, but wasn't too fond of the Honey Fried Chicken. Potato salad was good, but nothing particularly stood out as amazing. I also got a lemonade to drink, hoping for something refreshing, but instead it tasted like straight up sugar water, you couldn't even taste the lemons at all!
Service was all right, service a bit hard to flag down since it was a busy night.
