NYC bear guide

NYC bears are hardly confined to one habitat. Use our bear guide to find where you can party with these friendly, furry urban creatures.

Urban Bear Guide: The Urban Bear Street Fair

Undeniably, the NYC bear scene has moved from subculture to the gay mainstream in the past few years, thanks in part to large-scale events like Urban Bear Weekend and Provincetown, Massachusetts's Bear Week. At this point, bearded, husky guys dominate much of gay clubs and nightlife, from gay bars like Stonewall and Rockbar to mega dance parties including Horse Meat Disco and the Fur Ball. So what makes a bear? These days, it's pretty much anyone with face fuzz and a bit of extra meat on his bones. We're not generally hung up on labels around here, but there's no denying that these guys throw some of the best parties around. Our NYC bear guide will help you navigate the furry forest.

Hi..I am not a traditional bear, i lack hair and size...but have been attracted and in love with bears since 13 years of age.  I live on Long Island...I think all the bears have been caught and released to upstate...I would love to meet other bears, but I am fearful of rejection.  I can travel to NYC...I am 66 years old and been a closeted bear forever...the closet has been opened and I want to experience bears...to be surrounded by them, but fearful that my size and body will not be accepted.  I am hoping you might have a suggestion as to how i can be around bears, but not offend any of them.  I am 5'10 tall and 200 pounds, but hairless...I am Scandinavian...we have trouble with growing hair...

can you suggest a place or a way that I can be around such wonderful loving men and not be seen as an outsider or odd ball?

my email is Kingrlc@hotmail.com,   i am a retired teacher living on the north shore of eastern long island.  If I go to the city I ususally stay over night if I can find a reasonable place to stay.  I stayed with a very nice man in a guest room a few times but then he moved to Florida...I am t trying to find a similar place...I don't need much.    I live about 20 minutes from the ferry to Fire island...I am willing to recipricate...I have a guest room and I am more than willing to have a guest , at no cost, stay over and be willing to take him or them to Fire Island...if you know of anyone willing to be willing to let me stay with them and have them stay with me for a day at Fire Island, I would appreciate you shareing there information with me.. I am a non smoker...and willing to share with other non-smokers...anything else is find.   I am sorry for such a long message and putting all this on you,,,but you are my first search and I thought I would take a chance.   Thank you so very much for your time and effort with my request.

Sincerely,

Russ Clinton 57 Park Drive

Rocky Point, NY

BTW...many men have to take the train from Penn station to Sayville station, then a shuttle bus the ferry to Fire Island (either Cherry Grove or Fire Island Pines)...the Grove has great shows and accepts anyone, The Pines tends to be "models and Chelsea boys...very fit and snobby)...since I live so close I can meet men at the Ronkonkoma train station ( it has a lot more tarains) and go to my house at any time...then take them to Fire Island.
