Although Portishead recorded a great live album at this 1930s-era ballroom, the sound system can leave something to be desired. But the room gets a bit of a bad rap, as large halls go: It’s spacious (thanks to the addition of a balcony) and a great place to catch assorted medium-to-big acts like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Ghostface and Arctic Monkeys.

This is more of an obituary than a review, but Roseland was a fantastic medium sized venue to see bands.  Now it is gone.  My father used to go here during the 60's to see big bands play and dance.  The dance shoes exhibit at the front entrance was testament to these early dance days.  Flash forward 35 years and I'm seeing bands like Primus and GWAR here. The bar area was towards the back and quite a quest when the venue was full.  The view of the band was decent and the sound was fantastic.  If you got a chance to see a show there, hope you enjoyed it.  RIP.
