Following years of Verboten parties at various venues in both Manhattan and Brooklyn, the Verboten club joined the north Williamsburg nightlife scene a little over a year ago, with tons of house, techno, bass music and live gigs filling the 750-person-capacity spot. The main room features an expansive dance floor and Martin Audio sound system, while the side room serves as a restaurant and lounge; both have a modern-industrial feel, or as the crew behind the club puts it, “the brick-and-mortar realization of Verboten's dystopian aesthetic.” Trouble & Bass, Bespoke Musik, Push the Night and PopGun all join Verboten in curatorial duties, and Carl Craig, Guy Gerber, Matthew Dear, Davide Squillace, Ida Engberg, Matt Tolfrey and Lee Curtiss are among the notables claiming residencies.

Verboten is basically Brooklyn in club form, as it embodies everything that makes Brooklyn... well, Brooklyn.

Within WIlliamsburg? Check.

Located in an area where illicit activities probably go down around the corner? Check.

An underground club scene with artists that you've never heard of yet still has a 2 hour wait? Check.

Ridiculous $20-40 covers to see said unheard of artists? Check.

Flannel shirts, skinny jeans, oversized glasses and Converses everywhere? Check.

Giant dance floors, multiple DJ rooms, great sound system, banging music and fantastic crowd? Check, check and check.

Pro tip: always, always buy your tickets online beforehand, (so you can skip the line like a boss) and doors open at x hour really means opener performs at x+2 hours and main DJ comes out at x+4 hours.

Verboten is another top-notch NYC nightclub backed by people who have been in the scene from the very start. I remember going to their parties at countless different spots both in Manhattan (the good ol' Rivington Hotel days!) and Brooklyn years ago. It's great that they have a place to call home now, as well as several "away" events such as the Yoga in the Park series and StageOne in the summer season!
