Louisiana songstress (and upright bassist) Amy LaVere has a pleasingly clear and girlish voice, which she matches to twangy, beguiling tunes. You may recognize her from her portrayal of rockabilly wildcat Wanda Jackson in Walk the Line, but her latest, third album, Stranger Me, has her mining darker territory; it's as sweet a breakup album as you'll find.
