Behind the retro bondage-chic lingerie Diana Krall sports on the cover of her latest LP, Glad Rag Doll, is a surprisingly edgy new spin on her traditional singing-jazz-pianist métier. Perhaps on the advice of her hubby, Elvis Costello, Krall has enlisted Marc Ribot to provide characteristically dry, wiry guitar to a set of vintage vaudeville and jazz tunes from the ’20s and ’30s. Krall's warm voice floats and flexes convincingly, and her bluesy touch at the keys has rarely held more mischievous swagger.
