Geri Allen
Pianist Geri Allen is one of the foremost jazz talents to emerge during the 1980s, a formidable stylist and bandleader capable of negotiating the innovations of McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock and Cecil Taylor while adding her own particular spin to the mix. Last month, Allen nearly stole the show at an Ornette Coleman tribute in Prospect Park; here, she settles in at the Stone for a residency focused on duets, including sets with drummer Terri Lyne Carrington (July 1), flutist Nicole Mitchell (July 3), saxist Tia Fuller (July 5) and violinist-vocalist Laurie Anderson (July 6).
