Back on the local scene after what feels like too long a break, Kansas City vocalist Kevin Mahogany makes up for lost time with a week of varied settings at Birdland. He's gigging with pianist Cyrus Chestnut, an all-star band and guests on March 12 and13. Drummer Bernard Purdie anchors Mahogany's band on Mar 14. And on Mar 15 and 16, the singer fronts an organ combo that includes Purdie, grinder Jared Gold and other guests.
