  • The evening was sublime. The selection and arrangements of his solo songs displayed an artistry that transcended the pop craftsmanship of the Monkees by light years. Nesmith was a pioneer of the Country-Rock genre way before the Eagles, Poco, the Byrds, New Riders of the Purple Sage, etc. integrating elements of the slide guitar and the banjo into his compositions as early as 1965. The enjoyment of playing in front of true fans was obvious by the smile on Mike's face that was pure and true. Thank you Mr. Nesmith for coming to NYC and for years of quality music. I sat directly behind Elvis Costello (in the Town Hall Orchestra section) who was obviously enjoying himself watching a performer who has aged with grace and dignity.
