On its latest LP, Slippery Rock, Mostly Other People Do the Killing demonstrates anew why it's one of the most appealing jazz ensembles in town. The local quartet—led by bassist Moppa Elliott and featuring trumpeter Peter Evans, saxist Jon Irabagon and drummer Kevin Shea—has as much fun laying down a funky, whimsical groove as it does exploding form altogether; the end result feels at once anarchic and oddly wholesome. Tonight the group expands to a septet to perform new Elliott pieces based on ’20s and ’30s jazz and blues.
