On his recentish Rick Rubin–helmed albums, Neil Diamond stripped away the layers of kitsch that he accumulated over the decades, to fine effect. Given the size and season—it's summertime, y'all!—we're willing to bet that the singer may favor a more hits-based act at these shows. Any reluctance to fully embrace Rubin's austere vision of his art is understandable: To completely purge Neil Diamond of kitsch would be to steal his soul.
