Okkervil River
While Okkervil River's 2011 disc, I Am Very Far, was the indie-folksters' grandest album yet, showcasing orchestral arrangements and various pieces of furniture being flung around the room, the band's newie, The Silver Gymnasium, features sunnier, sleeker stylings. It's gripping, cerebral stuff as ever, set in singer-songwriter Will Sheff's childhood hometown of Meriden, NH, in the ’80s. Opening up, Austin’s Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears have an impressive modern take on old-time soul.
