Is it remarkable or ridiculous how many nights Phil Lesh can draw sellout crowds in New York City? Whatever your stance on the Grateful Dead diaspora, you’ve got to hand it to Lesh for endurance. At 67, the guy has played through a liver transplant and prostate cancer, not to mention all those years spent truckin’. And it’s not like Lesh is a museum piece. Just as he did with the Dead, the nimble bassist builds his band’s jams from the ground up, holding down the low end while poking out intricate melodies. During this run (at press time, only a few shows still had tickets available), the band will mix it up with covers, acoustic sets and, of course, those Dead songs that seem to go on forever, much like Lesh’s career.
