Montreal duo Purity Ring presents the haunting electropop from its 4AD debut album, Shrines, which we predict is going to top many a year-end list. The justly buzzed-about girl-boy combo layers babyish coos over hacked-up synths. Eerie content (sample lyric: “Cut open my sternum and pull my little ribs around you”) adds to a light-dark tension that makes the group’s work compelling.
