Smashing Pumpkins
Billy Corgan hasn't had too much luck keeping a stable Pumpkins lineup together in recent years, but that hasn't stopped him from releasing a steady stream of no-nonsense alt rock, sturdy enough to please all but the pickiest Siamese Dream snobs. The enjoyable new Monuments to an Elegy follows 2012's return-to-form effort Oceania. Sadly, Mötley Crüe stickman and world-class ham Tommy Lee, who plays on the record, won't be on hand here, but Corgan has nabbed an impressive rhythm team—Rage Against the Machine drummer Brad Wilk and Killers bassist Mark Stoermer—for the current Pumpkins mini tour, which winds down in the Village on Dec 8.
