On her latest album, Magic Trix, Brooklyn's Xenia Rubinos splits the difference between Tune-Yards–like vocal experimentation and jazz fusion, served with a big dollop of glee and cheek. Her songs veer from shouty and up-tempo to romantic and dreamy, and have titles like "Hair Receding." A good thing, in our book. Also at Pete's tonight: Singer-songwriter Sandra Lilia Velasquez goes it alone as SLV, having fronted Brooklyn Latin-pop party band Pistolera. Her latest EP, titled Dig Deeper, was produced by Meshell Ndegeocello.
