BarBossa, opened by Palacinka owner Ernani Assunção, dishes out Brazilian comfort food, and it’s heavy stuff: A crock of baked provolone arrives bubbling in its own oil; braciola milanesa, a roulade of steak, is breaded, layered with cheese and panfried. Chef Tariq Haq’s menu is hit or miss: Striped bass rolled in a banana leaf and baked with a banana sauce was a mishmash of underwhelming flavors, but mango chicken curry—thickened with rice and cashews and topped with a tangy yogurt sauce—was satisfyingly toothsome. The draw is the atmosphere, not the food. The dining room opens onto the street on warm nights, so stop by for a glass of wine and a cheese plate, and enjoy the people-watching.
