Its heyday is past, but crowds still flock to this converted diner, perhaps because its sidewalk seating still makes for good people-watching and caipirinha sipping. The tropical drinks are refreshing and there’s still evidence of a gaudy past: The retro glass-and-metal facade, neon sign and ludicrously superfluous velvet rope reflect the joint’s early-’90s glory. The menu boasts Brazilian flavah, but a few dishes prove to be less interesting than described (grilled salmon, for example, comes drenched in mango puree). Sounder alternatives are the paella, rib-eye steak, raw-bar selections and numerous salads. Just imagine how many models have planted their Brazilian-waxed bottoms in your seat.
