"Lavo (39 E 58th St between Madison and Park Aves; 212-750-5588, lavony.com) is a new place for VIP-types. It's near the Four Seasons, so a lot of businesspeople go there for lunch and meetings."-Massimiliano De Moja, 43, restaurant investor, midtown

The owners of clubby eateries Tao and the Stanton Social bring this Vegas-based Italian restaurant to midtown. A flashy menu from chef Manuel Trevino (Travertine) includes seafood plateaus, lobster-scampi pizza, and a one-pound meatball topped with sheep's-milk ricotta and lamb ragù (for sharing—you'll need to fit into your party clothes for dancing at the adjacent nightclub).

Very appealing aesthetic - upscale Italian with a hard edge. Presentation is on point, and the food is delicious, but the wait staff was not attentive (even though I was there early, and the front room was not even half filled). I chalk some of this up to their regular client base - as they don't want to overly bother you, but I had to periodically wait for refills, and placing orders for courses. The music can get to be a bit loud (and I was only in the restaurant), and the space can be a little cramped (the bathroom especially). The food was certainly high quality, and honestly, better than I expected (both in portioning - I couldn't even finish a meatball, and in taste); which helped to justify the price. Overall it was a nice experience, but sometimes it runs a bit more nightclub than restaurant (especially late nights/weekends) so be forewarned.

I met Indi Romero few weeks ago and I'm now going out with him all the time, probably one of the nicest promoter in the city. The place was amazing with house and techno and we had the best table for free because of Indi. I heard they also do crazy brunch during the week end and will probably try this pretty soon. You should definitely meet him, you can contact him on facebook.

I went there last weekend and it was amazing! Nice lounge party to go with your best friends. If you want to avoid cover charge and get free drinks you should contact a promoter. I got in touch with Indi from Joonbug, who was super nice, I highly recommend contacting him (on Facebook his name is Indi Romero), He will make your night so much easier. You don’t want to count all week on going to a place and then get rejected at the door... and they make sure this doesn’t happen.
