Popular Pipa has superbly maximized its ground-floor location at ABC Carpet & Home. Amid wooden tables, aged mirrors and heavy draperies presided over by twinkling chandeliers each with their own price tag (oh right, it’s a furniture store), feast on zesty tapas rooted in a few choice ingredients. Coca, a Catalan flatbread, is topped with tart artichokes and sobrasada, a paprika-kneaded Mallorcan sausage; sautéed spinach is studded with swollen golden raisins; and bright-red pimientos del piquillo (peppers shaped like “little beaks”) bulge with delicate crabmeat.
