There’s no place to sit, no delivery and no frills—just good, cheap Middle Eastern food; the daily lunchtime line attests to that. Since 1992, owner Mohammad Jamal has been providing his hungry loyal masses with Syrian sandwiches, platters and pies. It’s mostly, but not strictly, vegetarian. The chicken-shwarma sandwich is outstanding. Fabulous falafel sandwiches—in pita with lettuce, onion, carrots, tomatoes and tahini—will run you three dollars, so ask for a Turkish coffee too and fork over a fiver.
