When it opened in 2003, this Diamond District restaurant attracted (largely sarcastic) attention for its overdone Gothic decor. However, most of the opulent decorations have been banished, along with the opera-singing waiters, leaving behind a few dramatic mirrors and couches. Brick-oven pizzas are a good bet; try the Del Re, with fig jam, caramelized onion, Gorgonzola and prosciutto. Other dishes are uneven: Lobster ravioli was undercooked around the edges and dotted with overcooked shrimp, while baked clams came with not too much breading and a light lemony sauce. Meat entrées, such as rack of lamb, are served with heavy sauces. Desserts also suffer from excess. For example, the warm chocolate cake was ruined by syrupy chocolate sauce (think Bosco).

We were staying at the Holiday Inn Express a couple of doors away. Had just arrived late afternoon Friday...took a walk saw several restaurants in our 3 or 4 block sojourn, read the outside menu and decided to eat there for our first night in NYC. I had not been to NYC since the late 80s. My daughters had taken me to celebrate my 77th birthday. All of the staff were absolutely stupendous. The water glasses were constantly refreshed, every one of the wait staff were attentive without being overly so. The dishes we ordered were exceptional. After our meal one of my daughters ordered dessert, and I ordered a fabulous Porto. I received a beautiful complimentary Tiramisu with a sculptured strawberry rose and a birthday candle. It was a beautiful ending for a long travel day. We decided to spend our last night at Resette's before heading back home. We all ordered something different than on our previous visit. This time we sat bar side. We were fortunate to be served by the sweetest, knowledgable, and, personable young lady. I am embarrassed I do not remember her name. Then again, some days, I don't remember my own. If I ever get to NYC again, I would stay in the same hotel, small, but, sufficient, and, maybe have all my main meals at Resette.
