Nolita is slowly becoming Little Australia, thanks to a few Aussie shops and two Down Under restaurants. Eight Mile Creek is the pricey joint, but across the street, Ruby’s keeps just about every item under ten bucks. Eating here is more about the social scene than the food; gaggles of Australians cram around the space’s five wooden tables or hang around outside. The menu sticks to salads and sandwiches—some of which are named after Aussie beaches (like the Blueys and Bondi chicken sandwiches)—and of course the essential native dessert: sweet, sticky date pudding.
