It’s rare to retain New York cred after half a decade, but Sushi Samba continues to pack ’em in, thanks to top-notch cocktails and an innovative menu fusing Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian cuisines. Traditional sushi and sashimi are available, as are South American–style meats, but the real fun is where the cultures cross. Ceviche consists of bites of sashimi splashed with citrus juices. Chilean sea bass is marinated in miso, and sushi rolls come with ingredients such as mango and a wild concoction called “barbecue mayonnaise.” Live DJs and a rooftop garden at the downtown branch draw a younger crowd than the Park Avenue location, but the lively music and ’60s-mambo-craze–inspired design at both spots ensure a scene no matter where you are.
