The Runner - Walt Whitman wrote this simple but impactful poem while living around the block on Ryerson Street. It served as a metaphor and homage to the Industrial Revolution and growth happening in America. He saw Clinton Hill as a place to escape the commotion of city life. We share his opinion of our neighborhood, too.

We choose The Runner for our name to celebrate the very same growth and progress happening on Myrtle Avenue and in Clinton Hill that Whitman spoke of.

We think The Runner should be the kind of place where the history and diversity of our neighborhood is celebrated in local flavors, Brooklyn ambience and community interaction. It’s why we’re serving food and drinks inspired by American comfort enhanced by the use of a natural wood fired oven. That’s what we mean by “an American Heritage restaurant.” Come see for yourself.
