Don’t expect to dig through long boxes full of dusty old comics. The stock here comprises new titles, back issues, graphic novels, children’s books, and signed prints from artists like Dash Shaw, Paul Pope and Lauren Weinstein. Remember to pick up a copy of Smoke Signal, the shop’s free newspaper, which highlights underground and emerging authors and artists.

Desert Island is a good shop if you like to buy comic books, zines, graphic novels, strange printed ephemera, limited-edition posters, or just like to casually browse those things. It's small but well stocke, and the selection is expertly curated with a mix of big-publisher stuff (Marvel trade paperbacks) and small-press, foreign and arty things. The store also publishes Smoke Signal, which is a free newsprint comics anthology that contains all kinds of good, weird, imaginative, out-there work from great artists that you should probably know. Make sure to grab a copy on your way out.
