Guarded by two 19th-century cannons, Kaufman’s is one of the oldest army-surplus stores in the country. Pick through chaotic piles of garments inside to find such cool military garb as wide selection of pea coats and thick Austrian army sweaters, plus classic workwear and casual brands such as Carhartt, Dickies and Schott. The store also rents outfits to costume-party goers and wardrobe scouts (remember Robert De Niro’s field jacket in Taxi Driver? Enough said).

I used to be a customer, and receive their catalog. I just went to there website, and absolutely could not get to anywhere that I could buy any of their products. I used to like to buy surplus camping stuff from them, but I guess they don't do that anymore.

I took the wife to new york shopping from England .She had a fantastic time but my memories would be my visit to Kaufmans. i wanted her to pack me a lunch and leave me in the place all day .what a fantastic place and the owner is such a great bloke .Piles army surplus and knick knacks .the bloke that owns the place is brilliant and so helpfull and nice . i would recomend going its a fantastic place but take your time and leave her indoors to do her own stuff. Mick . PS Got back to England and everybody wanted to know where i got my stuff as it was good clean and not expensive .
