Upper West Sider Robert Stuart has been cutting tresses at his salon since 1983. After running away from home as a teenager, Stuart had originally planned to be a social worker, but his styling hobby took off instead, and he opened a salon on Amsterdam Avenue. Now, he’s packed up and moved his team a few blocks to a larger hair haven. The salon features reddish-brown walls and stone-and-wood accents giving it a desert-in-the-city feel. Prices are as expected in this neighborhood, with a menu including haircuts ($55–$90), highlights ($110–$250), keratin treatments ($350–$500) and updos ($75–$100).
