It's a celebration of Harlem's historic community’s rich artistic heritage with a weeklong series of concerts and events. Sunday’s happening is the wonderfully titled “A Great Day in Harlem,” and as the name suggests, it’s going to be great, with 40,000+ people expected to attend. There’ll be showcases for Harlem’s gospel, fashion and culture scenes culminating in a big concert under the stars, which just happens to be titled “A Concert Under the Stars.” Running concurrently with the “Great Day” is an all-day picnic in Riverside Park with vendors from all over Harlem. There’s also going to be food from the ’hood’s best restaurants, and if you’ve ever eaten in Harlem, you’ll know that basically means some of the tastiest (and culturally varied) cooking in all of Manhattan. Arrive to Riverside Park early if you want to stake out a spot for you and your friends or family; this’ll be one great day, indeed.
