Time Out says

We love going to the Rockaways, and we love old-timey things. Which is why the Nostalgia Ride to the Rockaways is a super fun idea: Participants get to ride on one of the New York Transit Museum’s well-preserved postwar subway cars all the way to the beach. They've been remarkably well restored and feature all the amenities—or lack thereof—of the old subway cars. Marvel at the vintage advertisements and impeccably maintained old seats, then sigh audibly (but whimsically!) at the lack of air-conditioning, because you’ll have to open one of the train’s windows to get any fresh air. Just like old times. Not only do you get a ride out to the beach, but you’ll even get a ride back! The five-hour window at the beach gives you plenty of time to soak up the late summer sun, and just enough time on the old train to say that you were a part of NYC history.
